Dementia and memory loss

Memory loss is not one thing, and several of the things it gets confused with are treatable.

Families arrive at the word dementia long before a clinician does, and often for the wrong reason. Untreated hearing loss, failing eyesight, a urinary tract infection, a new medication, a bad stretch of sleep — each can look exactly like cognitive decline from across a dinner table. Some of those are fixable. Knowing which is which changes what you should do next.

These essays cover both halves: the conditions that impersonate dementia, and what actually living with it at home looks like — sundowning in the late afternoon, wandering, and the daily structure that keeps someone oriented. CarePali provides non-medical support at home, not memory-unit care and not diagnosis; nothing here is a substitute for your parent's clinician.
